Browsing through the news …

Maharashtra shows us how its done, villagers in the (extremely beautiful) Raigad district of Maharashtra voted on whether they wanted a Reliance SEZ. Here are the videos from NDTV, video one, video two.

Wonder why Reliance wants to go to court over this ? What happened to Power On Toh India On ? 😮 Maybe the power is only for Reliance shareholders 😉 .

Magarpatta was another example of land acquisition being handled well. Will the government of West Bengal taken note ? What happened to People’s Democracy ?

Oh, also engineers in India designed the latest six-core Xeon processor, in the same city where mobs ransacked two Christian churches. We are all set to launch a mission to the moon. My apartment mate actually interned at ISRO this summer and worked on a project related to the Chandrayaan.

An important recommendation of the Sachar committee was accepted. 30 people were killed in Himachal Pradesh, consequence of excessive logging perhaps, but it seems they wanted to cut some more  ?

I watched Welcome to Sajjanpur, and it was an absolute joy 🙂 , more on that later.

It is funny how India can dominate my emotions even though I am 12,000 miles away.

  1. where are you right now and it looks that you are well informed and updated about india.

Thanks for stopping by. I am in America right now, doing my PhD.

  2. How similar to China, I am reminded of the Nail House ” in chongqing. Unfortunately for these farmer types the time is running out and what is against them is the Time. People who run their lives have no interest in them or how they live.

The key issue is livelihood. With inflation at 12 %, how much is 10 lakh rupees going to be worth in 10 years ? The farmers have to be given a stake in the development, as was (ostensibly) done in Magarpatta. Do you have any idea how the land acqusition situation in Punjab/Haryana is ? I think state government attitudes towards this issue vary quite a bit.

I don’t think these particular Himachal Floods had anything to do with forests this time, it has been raining here like crazy! I have never seen such rain in September before it has gone so cold that we already need blankets at night!

Well we had a hurricane in Texas, luckily the only effect it had on Austin was some cool mornings in early September. 🙂

  3. Oops pardon my bad HTML above, could you please fix it? Thanks!!

  4. You have just proved that out of sight does not mean out of mind!

    Absolutely. 🙂

That ‘power on…’ punch line is of Anil, not Mukesh. With that line, he ‘robbed’ many Indians! I have a post on that somewhere.

Odzer is right…this year it’s been raining like never before.

India is full of contradictions. It is perhaps the only place where 21st and 12th centuries happily coexist…a few aberrations notwithstanding!

Yes, the past does live in India, doesnt it, its not merely a few monuments and statues like it has become in many other places.
